Lymphedema Management

Lymphedema Management is offered to treat individuals who have problems with lymphedema either from surgery or a malfunction in their lymph drainage system.

iStock-508701678Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is the most successful treatment for chronic lymphedema. Post mastectomy lymphedema and other related conditions respond extremely well to this gentle, non-invasive, and highly effective therapy.

The Program

Complete Decongestive Therapy consists of:

  • Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) - gently redirects fluid from the impaired lymphatic area to areas of the body where the lymphatic system is functioning normally
  • Bandaging following MLD - applies low-stretch bandages using varied pressure to the involved limb to help prevent lymph fluid from returning to swollen areas and to prevent tissue hardening
  • Exercises - increases lymph flow from the affected area
  • Skin care education - teaches good hygiene and skin inspection techniques to reduce the risk for developing cellulitis or fungal infections
  • Compression garments - helps prevent lymph fluid from refilling in the tissues. Following intensive treatment, custom garments may be measured for your daily wear.
