Mulberry Gardens Adult Day Program Welcomes Caregivers and Their Families

September 09, 2021

The Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging now partners with the Adult Day Program at Mulberry Gardens of Southington.

This year, the program is funded by the Bradley H. Barnes and Leila U. Barnes Memorial Trust at Main Street Community Foundation. The Adult Day Program is a community that understands caregiving can be stressful. To reduce stress, we provide a safe and positive learning environment for your client or relative.

The Adult Day Program contributes to a much-needed break for caregivers. It improves the quality of life for both the caregiver and the member.

“Caregivers enjoy the respite care”, said Michelle Wyman, a dementia specialist at the Center for Healthy Aging.

Providing a safe space to help answer and support any questions or concerns. Members receive individualized care plans for their social and cognitive needs.

Features and benefits include:

  • Personal care and assistance
  • Memory enhancing activities
  • Transportation
  • Nutritious Meals
  • Access to the Hartford HealthCare GoodLife Fitness Program

The Adult Day Program is the ideal environment for brain stimulation and structured activity with an opportunity to socialize. “We are big cheerleaders for this program because we understand the need of adult caregivers,” said Patty O’Brian, a dementia specialist at the Center for Healthy Aging.

O’Brian works closely with staff to review their programs and help enhance the therapeutic activities, while taking into account each member’s background and best approaches at their stage in dementia. Wyman helps caregivers and family members better understand dementia and its progression, providing the best management techniques.

The Center for Healthy Aging’s dementia specialists work closely with the community as a free service to support and educate safety concerns with care planning.
