Soon-to-Open Healthy Aging at Backus Adds Coordinator

June 12, 2019

Kristine Johnson is the new resource coordinator for the Center for Healthy Aging that will be located at Backus Hospital.

Kristine Johnson, former Eastern Region Director of the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter, has been named the Resource Coordinator for the soon-to-open Center for Healthy Aging at Backus Hospital.

Prior to her work with the Alzheimer’s Association, Johnson served as a Child Advocate for the Southeastern Connecticut Center for Juvenile Justice and Program Manager for Madonna Place in Norwich.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Quinnipiac University.

The Center for Health Aging at Backus, which will be located on the hospital’s entry level at 326 Washington Street in Norwich , will open on June 13. The new center is the 11th to be opened by Hartford HealthCare Senior Services across the state including centers at Hartford HealthCare acute care hospitals Hartford Hospital, Charlotte Hungerford, The Hospital of Central Connecticut, MidState Medical Cente, and Windham Hospital.

“While there are a lot of great organizations in the area that can give assistance to seniors, patients and families aren’t always aware of them,” said Johnson. “The Center will not only make patients and families aware of these services, we’ll also connect them directly so they can get the help they need.”

The Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging is a resource and assessment center designed to make it easier for seniors, their loved ones and caregivers to access essential information and services to attain the optimal quality of life. Johnson says the Center will connect clients to other services such as primary care providers, specialists, estate planning, and fitness programs just to name a few.

The Center for Health Aging is a free service.  Walk-ins are welcome.  To contact the Backus Center for Healthy Aging call 860.425.5820.
