5 Medication Tips for Better Health

June 22, 2021

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, medication taken incorrectly causes 125,000 preventable deaths per year in this country. It’s important to follow your doctor’s instructions for taking your medications correctly and make sure you take the right dose at the right time. These tips can help:

  1. Ask questions: Make sure you know what each new medication is for, how to take the medication, and the contact information of the doctor who prescribed it.
  2. Make a list: Provide your doctor with a list of your medications—including over-the-counter medications—to help avoid harmful drug interactions.
  3. Use a calendar: Write on a calendar when to take your medications and when they need to be refilled. Include the exact days and times you’re supposed to take your medication.
  4. Stay organized: A weekly pill organizer is a great way to keep track of your medications—especially if you have multiple prescriptions.
  5. Make fewer trips to the pharmacy: Medication synchronization services work by placing your prescriptions onto the same refill schedule. Ask your local pharmacist about synchronizing your prescriptions and transitioning to a 90-day supply to reduce your trips to the pharmacy.
